Peter Max's exhibition of paintings, prints and other material has been a great success. It's the seventh Peter Max show to be mounted at Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor NJ, and has been very well received.

Peter Max's new exhibition, which opened at Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor on July 26, has been well attended.

This is the seventh Peter Max show at Ocean Galleries and, according to The Cape May County Herald, he contributes to 26 shows each year in both small galleries and major museums worldwide.

His site-specific pieces include the Stone Harbor catamaran beach, osprey nests, and Avalon fishing pier. Local photographer David Cosky provided Max with photos for reference, which he embellished with his signature style of texture, bright primary colors and multi-colored autograph. Two walls were dedicated to his reoccurring themes of hearts and the Statue of Liberty.

The first 300 conference registrants get a signed limited edition poster by Peter Max, who partnered with a ground-breaking team of vendors (SustainCommWorld, Appleton Coated and EarthColor) to produce this poster exclusively for the conference using a green workflow. Max created a design that emanates a joyous, sustainable world in keeping with his signature style. The background of the poster is blue, with a vibrant orange sun coming up over a light green horizon filled with green mountains. Yellow rays of light spread over the bright blue sky, with multicolored trees surrounding a river.

The paper used to print the posters on is Appleton Coated’s Utopia Two: Extra Green (U2:XG) for the sustainable method in which it was produced. It also holds ink and colors very well, in addition to being environmentally friendly. It is the first paper in North America to be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which improves the practice of forestry.

EarthColor printers was chosen because of its carbon neutral location. The poster printing was powered by 100% renewable wind energy. According to the EPA, EarthColor is the U.S.’s number 1 renewable energy purchaser in the printing industry. Even the proofing process was green – Max approved the proof virtually, without seeing the poster printed on paper.

The sustainable printing process recycled all residual materials and the inks contained no VOCs (Volatile organic compounds), which may have short- or long-term health effects.

Peter Max has been an advocate of ecology and sustainability since the first Earth Day and created posters for Greenpeace, the Peace Corps, Save the Whales and many other environmental causes. Max created the first 10-cent postage stamp in 1974, with the slogan “Preserve the Environment.”

Peter Max will be exhibiting new original paintings at 'Celebration of Harmony', an exhibition of his work at Ocean Galleries, in New Jersey.

Ron writes has written a review of the new 'Get Smart' movie and illustrates his piece with a nice graphic by Peter Max. His choice is arbitrary...

'I ended up choosing Peter Max 6 mainly because I couldn’t find a more solid connection: Peter Max is an iconic artist who got his start the 1960s and the original Get Smart started at the same time. Yeah the connection is tenuous (at best) but it was the best I could do. SO--on with the review!'

Ron hasn't written where he found it - maybe we're meant to sleuth it for ourselves. Call Maxwell on the shoe!
